Turnover Number (kcat) Calculator

Calculate the Turnover Number (kcat) for enzyme kinetics analysis.

kcat Calculation

Enter Vmax and total enzyme concentration to calculate kcat.

About the Turnover Number (kcat)

The Turnover Number (kcat) is a key parameter in enzyme kinetics that represents the maximum number of substrate molecules converted to product per enzyme molecule per second. It's a measure of the catalytic efficiency of an enzyme.

The formula used in this calculator is:

kcat = Vmax / [E]t

Where:

  • Vmax is the maximum reaction velocity (in µmol/min)
  • [E]t is the total enzyme concentration (in µM)

Note: This calculator converts Vmax from µmol/min to µmol/s to compute kcat in s⁻¹.

A higher kcat value indicates that the enzyme is more efficient at converting substrate to product.
